Located between the Beach and Yacht Club Resorts stands the Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. It was completely re-done in December 2019 and I got to enjoy the newly renovated restaurant in January 2020. I had such high hopes for the restaurant, as I have been wanting to come here for a long time. While I forgot to take pictures of the decor, the restaurant had a charming 50’s soda shop theme which I enjoyed. However, the gluten free food options were very limited. The burger served on a gluten free bun was accompanied by fruit and no offense, but if I wanted fruit then I wouldn’t order a burger. I want fries with a burger! You can’t have a burger without fries and how hard it is to dedicate one fryer for gluten free patrons. Anyway, I was also very disappointed that the “Chicken, Egg, or Tuna Salad served over Lettuce and Tomato” option had been removed from the allergy menu. On top of that, the “Turkey and Applewood-smoked bacon sandwich” is served on “allergy-friendly bread” that is NOT gluten free. By “allergy-friendly”, it means it does not have fish/shellfish or peanut/tree nuts. The “Cheddar Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich” sounded good, but I had had something very similar for lunch. So, I ended up with the burger and I ordered fries with it (because I just have an intolerance and not Celiac’s and shared fryers don’t usually give me problems). The burger was sadly overcooked and flavorless. I didn’t even think to take a picture of it. I was disappointed. The milkshake I ordered, however, was quite good. I wish that I had received it before or even with my meal, but it arrived at my table when I was more than halfway done with the burger. They did give a paper cup to let me take my milkshake to go.
So I am unsure if I will be returning to Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. Maybe just for a milkshake and not a meal. Or maybe someday they will improve their allergy menu. We will have to wait and see 🙂
